Boss Puzzled By 'Basic Errors'

4 January 2016

Steve Davis says difficult to know why such mistakes occurred against Sky Blues.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says his side will have to eradicate ‘basic errors’ if we are to stand a chance of escaping the relegation drop zone.

Crewe were left to rue a succession of missed chances against Coventry at the weekend and were severely punished for individual errors as the Sky Blues ran out 5-0 winners at Gresty Road. Adam Armstrong scored a first half hat-trick with the excellent Jacob Murphy adding two more as Tony Mowbray’s side took full advantage of some defensive lapses.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “They made some really basic errors and it is difficult to know what that happened. As the manager and a coaching team we can only do so much. We pick the team, set them up and work on the tactics but there is not a lot we can do about the individual mistakes.

“It can puzzle you as a manager and as a coach. You have to look at it and see if it nervous, the pace catches them out a bit or it’s down to their ability.

“That is the group we have. They can play well and put in a good performance or they can make mistakes.

“That is to take nothing away from Coventry because we know that they are a good side and they punished us with some clinical finishing.”
