Boss: 'Players Willl Roll Their Sleeves Up And Fight'

Steve Davis says players are determined to turn the season around again...

Steve Davis says his players will roll their sleeves up and work as hard as ever to turn our season around in the second half of the season. Crewe slipped to a second successive home defeat to Coventry City on Saturday and Davis says that his team will have a couple of weeks to get over a disappointing festive period.

Following the 5-0 home defeat to the Sky Blues, the boss said: “It is up to all of us to show some real fight and determination. The players will be working as hard as ever to turn it around in the second half of the season. We have done that over the past two seasons and we have to stick together and believe that we can do it again.

“They will train hard all week. I said that they would have to earn their days off after Christmas and they haven’t done that so they be in every day.

“We have to show that fight and win the majority of the games against the teams that are in and around us. Shrewsbury was a massive game for us and we failed right at the death on that occasion. It was a huge disappointment to lose it right at the end of the game, especially as we looked the better side in the second half.

“I expected better against Coventry and I was disappointed with aspects of the performance. We created a number of chances, just as many as them really, but didn’t finish them and when we made a mistake we got severely punished.

He added: “I’ve never questioned the commitment of the group and they will stick together and fight to turn it around. They are hurting and it is about how we respond. The Christmas games have gone and we have to move forward and quickly.”
