Boss On Why He Remains Cautious With Bingham

Billy Bingham pressing for a recall after overcoming slight back problem.

Steve Davis has suggested that midfielder Billy Bingham is pressing for a place again after overcoming a slight back problem. Bingham found himself back on the substitutes’ bench following the return to fitness of the experienced David Fox and a slight back problem also hampered his chances of a recall to the starting XI.

Bingham, a summer signing from Dagenham and Redbridge, twisted his back in training but was fit enough to sit on the bench over the festive period. Bingham last started the game against Fleetwood Town just before Christmas.

Steve explained to the club’s official web-site: “I decided to bring Foxy back into the team because I felt we needed his experience and he had been playing well before his back injury.

“Billy had done fine for us but I just felt after such a long lay-off through injury he would need some time to adjust. He had struggled with his hamstring and twisted his back in training so that is why I left him out of the Shrewsbury game.

“You find that when a player has been out for a few months that they can pick up some little niggles and I am trying to be cautious with him. I don’t want him to break down and for him to be out for a large chunk of the season again.

“It is important that we try and keep him fit and available because we will need him and he knows he will get his opportunity again.

The boss added: “He is has been training well and he was the outstanding player in training on Monday.”
