Work With Back Four Is Paying Off

12 February 2016

Boss says time improving relationships with the back four and goalkeeeper is paying off.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis believes that the hard work that the coaching staff have done with the back four and goalkeeper Ben Garratt has paid off in recent weeks.

Crewe obtained their second clean sheet from the last four games with a 2-0 win over Rochdale last weekend and Steve is looking for his defensive unit to be just as difficult to penetrate when second placed Walsall arrive in South Cheshire this weekend.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We have done a lot of work on the back four and the goalkeeper and improving the relationships there.

“We try and do something with them every day if we can and I think it has resulted in an improvement. The signs have been positive and we have become harder to beat.

“When you make two or three less mistakes then you become more solid. We have working with an overload and putting more players up against them, so they have to react quicker and make the right decisions.

“The work has helped and they have to keep that going because Walsall will pose a threat with their movement and in (Tom) Bradshaw they have a finisher.”
