We Needed A Goalscorer Like Hitchcock

26 February 2016

Boss delighted to welcome back Hitchcock on loan.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he is delighted to have been able to entice Tom Hitchcock back to the club on loan. Following the serious injury to the on-loan Ryan Seager, the club acted quickly to secure the services of the MK Dons forward for the remainder of the season.

Hitchcock previously scored three goals in six games for Crewe back in December 2013 before he left to join Rotherham’s promotion push towards the Championship and Davis is hoping the 23-year-old will make a similar impact this time around.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “After losing Ryan (Seager) we wanted to bring a proven goalscorer in and we have managed to do that with Tom. We know what he did here before and hopefully he can have the same sort of impact.

“I would say there is some unfinished business from last time because I felt he should have stayed, played the games and continued to have scored goals for us. Career paths can take different paths and now he is back here and wanting to do well again.

“We wanted to get Tom in before the weekend, so we could have a look at him and introducing him back into it. The good thing about getting Tom is that he knows what to expect and what we need him to do. That saves time.

“He has settled in quickly. He knows some of the lads from his time here and he is fit and ready to go.

“Tom has had a difficult time since securing a great move to MK Dons but he is like any player he wants to play and showcase his talent. He needs a run of games and we are delighted to get him in.

Steve added: “Tom prefers to play with a big one and play off him. He is like Callum (Saunders) and Lowey in that respect and I’m sure he will strike up a good partnership with Marcus (Haber).”
