Lunt’s side succumb to fourth straight defeat
Crewe Alexandra Under 18’s slipped a fourth straight defeat after a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Reaseheath.
Kenny Lunt was once again left with a depleted squad due to a number of his regulars needed to make up the numbers in the first team set-up and it once again proved costly.
Crewe took the lead in the first-half, Owen Dale getting in down the right flank and firing across goal, forcing the unfortunate defender to put through his own net.
Forest were level soon after though as pinball in the box following a corner fell to the centre-half who smashed home from six-yards.
An opportunist strike just before the break put the visitors ahead, with an initial shot blocked by Tom Lowery, a Forest striker reacted quickest to fire low past Jake Hilton at his near post.
Into the second period and Crewe drew level. A jinking run from Dale outfoxed the Forest back-line before he unleashed a shot from the edge of the box that cannoned off the inside of the box – leaving Harry Pickering the simple task of knocking in the loose ball on the goal-line.
The fight-back proved in vain as late on, Forest stole the points after the striker nipped in front of his man from a low driven cross to knock into the net from close range.
Crewe: Hilton, Morgan, Neal, Dowsett, Quinn, Lowery, Lundstram, Dale, Pickering, Walley, Higham
