Steve Prepares For Southend

29 February 2016

Boss says team has to move on qucikly from Saturday's disappointing defeat to Barnsley.

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra squad will be resting and preparing for tough games against Southend United tomorrow evening and then league leaders Burton Albion at the weekend. The Crewe Alexandra manager says he will have to wrap his players in cotton wool as we also have two Under-21 games this week against Sheffield United today and then Leeds on Thursday.

Ahead of today’s trip to Southend, Steve told us: “We will travel later today and make sure we rest and prepare for the game tomorrow. We did the same when we went to Colchester for a mid-week game and prepared right and got a good result.

“Why we have these fixtures in mid-week I don’t know, especially when they are two teams from the South and it surely be better for the fans to travel down on a Saturday?

“We cannot affect the fixtures. They come out as they are and you just have to get on with it.

“There is a lot of travelling involved and we also have two Under-21 games to contend with this week, so our ability to train will be limited anyway this week. We will rest and use the time for recovery and prepare for the games. It will have to be light this week in terms of the physical work.

“We will train again down there tomorrow. Southend have been playing a different system of late, so we will do some organisational work on that to prepare.”
