Boss doesn't envisage defence concerns when Ajayi returns to Cardiff after Chesterfield game this weekend.
On loan defender Semi Ajayi will make his final appearance for the club at Chesterfield this weekend. The 22-year-old’s loan deal from Cardiff City expires following our crucial game at Proact Stadium as he will have fulfilled the maximum 93 days of an emergency loan.
The former Arsenal trainee was drafted in as cover for the injured club captain Harry Davis and George Ray and their recent return to full training could not have been better timed. Both are hoping to acquire some game time in our Under-21 game against Sheffield Wednesday next week.
Steve explained to the club’s official web-site: “We would have done the available 93 days with Semi, so hopefully we will one of our other defenders fit. Fingers crossed they will be close to a return.
“I don’t envisage them being that far away at the time Semi will return to Cardiff.
“They will continue to train with a view to getting some game time in the Under-21s as soon as we can. Hopefully nothing sets them back.
He added: “We could juggle things around if necessary. Jon (Guthrie) can move to the centre and Zoumana (Bakayogo) can move to left-back. We can do that. It’s not ideal because Jon has done well there but hopefully one of our central defenders will be back.”
