Steve Davis pleased with the recent improving performances of his young players.
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says the recent performances of his younger players provide ‘great hope’ as we look to move away from the relegation drop zone.
Steve Davis has built a young squad with a sprinkling of more experienced players such as Captain David Fox, the Canadian International Marcus Haber and summer signing Billy Bingham and although he would have liked to have added some more experience to his dressing room, he admits it is never easy to do that in the current market.
Davis remains keen on the veteran Bury striker Ryan Lowe because he believes that our former forward has the right character to bring our own dressing room on.
Steve explained to crewealex.net: “We do have a young squad and it is probably one of the youngest we have ever had. Of course, I would like to add some more experience but it is hard to find the right ones with that character we are looking for.
“It is difficult to attract experienced Championship or League One players because if they do become available and there are a few clubs interested then the money involved can become ridiculous. We then have to look at other options because of the market we are in at the moment.
“We don’t get too disappointed with that because you can still get good young players, who are hungry and want to come out and do well. It is nice to have that blend with our Academy players.
“When the young players perform like they have over the last few games then it gives you great hope for the future. What you do have to accept is that young players will have off days.
He added: "They cannot play well in every game and what you hope for is that they don’t all have an off day on the same day. You can cope with one or two because the others can help carry them through.”
