Jon Guthrie says confidence remains high depsite Chesterfield knock back.
This summer defender Jon Guthrie is set to complete his fourth full season with the club and the 23-year-old feels that he is now producing his most consistent football since being spotted playing for his local team Pewsey Vale down in Wiltshire.
Guthrie has now amassed 85 appearances for Crewe Alexandra, including 28 in all competitions this season. Since his arrival, Jon has played right across the back four but has found a niche at left-back.
Jon told crewealex.net: “I am really enjoying it and I feel I am improving and getting stronger. It has been a combination of things. I feel I have adjusted more to the level and feel more confidence.
“When the back four has been solid and not conceding too many goals, then that all helps with your own performance as well.
“Everything helps and I have enjoyed it at left-back. I just want to stay in the team and play my part. Every game is a big game now and we have got to get those wins that will see us safe. We have got to pick away at the teams above us again and then get ourselves out of it sooner rather than later.
“We have had a few knock backs this season and Chesterfield was another one but we still have that belief in ourselves and we are still in their fighting. It is a close knit group and we want to prove those doubters wrong, who have written us off.
Jon added: “We are all in this together and we just have to keep going.”
