Door Will Open For Youngsters

19 February 2016

Boss to choose between Saunders, Ainley and Kirk for Chesterfield start.

Steve Davis say that losing his on-loan striker Ryan Seager due to injury will open the door for one of his Academy youngsters at Chesterfield this weekend. Seager has returned to his parent club Southampton after suffering a serious knee injury against Rochdale on Tuesday evening and with the Crewe Alexandra boss unlikely to bring in a replacement before this weekend’s game, the boss has a choice to make between Callum Saunders, Charlie Kirk and Callum Ainley.

Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “It will be difficult to get someone in on loan before the weekend but it is an option and I have the backing to do that if we can find one.

“We thought we would have Ryan for the season and he was just what we wanted and needed. There were others on our list. Some of them have gone out and one or two are injured but we will pick it up again.

“The interest will be generated again and if we can find one who we think will do us a job then we will do it. There is nothing at the moment but that will give a chance for one of our own this weekend.

“The door will open for one of the younger ones. We have Callum Saunders, Charlie Kirk and Callum Ainley and I wouldn’t be afraid to give any of them their chance. I will look at it and decide what we will do and as a manager you pick on form.

He added: “I would not hesitate to play any of them.”
