Defender named in squad after injury but boss to decide whether to start him or not.
Steve Davis says he will have to make a decision on whether to plunge George Ray back into first team action against Barnsley this weekend. Ray made his long awaited return from injury with 45 minutes for the Development Squad on Monday.
The centre-half has made a successful return from the fractured ankle he sustained late on in the club’s 3-2 win over Colchester United back in November.
If Ray is deemed not fit enough then the Crewe Alexandra boss will have to reshuffle his back four with the versatile Jon Guthrie switching to his more accustomed central role.
Ahead of this weekend’s home encounter with Barnsley, Steve said: “George came through the game unscathed and has trained this week but I will have to decide whether to plunge him straight back into it after the length of time he has been out.
“We do have options there and George is fit. He is just lacking a bit of match sharpness. He will be included in the squad and it is a good addition to have.”
