Barnsley Can Fill Hammill Void

26 February 2016

Steve Davis says the Tykes have enough strenght in depth to cope with Adam Hammill suspension.

Steve Davis says Barnsley will miss one of their influential players this weekend after their winger Adam Hammill was shown a straight red card against Bury on Tuesday evening. He was a bit unfortunate to see red for a challenge on Bury’s Danny Rose towards the end of their goalless draw with the Shakers.

Hammill will now serve a suspension and Davis is a keen admirer of the former Liverpool and Wolves forward.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I went to their game at Bury and I think Hammill was a bit unfortunate to be sent off. Both players went into the challenge and both were high.

"Sometimes they are a yellow card but on this occasion the referee showed him a straight red.

“From our point of view, it is better that he is not playing than playing because he is a good player. He has the ability to go past people and make things happens. He can be very influential to the way they play.

“What advantage that will have for us remains to be seen because Barnsley have a strong squad and can juggle things around if they need to. They have just signed Chapman on loan from Middlesbrough and can play Fletcher who they have have on loan. He is a young forward from Manchester United and he is capable of scoring goals.

“They have players who can come in and fill the void left by Hammill and play a different way. We won’t know until the team-sheets come out tomorrow and we have got to focus on ourselves.”
