Bakayogo: "We Deserved Better"

22 February 2016

Zooms happy to score in a Crewe shirt but frustrated by defeat at Chesterfield

Zoumana Bakayogo was arguably Crewe Alexandra’s best performer at Chesterfield at the weekend before a stomach complaint forced him off in the second half. The former Leicester City and Tranmere man had certainly caught the eye on the left wing and he marked his all-round performance with our goal in the 3-1 defeat.

The former Ivory Coast Youth International admits that he would rather have had collected the three points in our fight against relegation rather than registering his first senior goal for close to three years.

Bakayogo made it 2-1 in the game after being in the right place at the right time to finish off Brad Inman’s excellent cut back into the danger zone.

After the 3-1 Zoumana told Crewe Alex PlayerHD: "We deserved better than that from the way we played. Even when the young kids came on they played really well. I hope next time it will be better because we didn't deserve that result.

"I managed to score, but I would have much prefer to leave with the three points.

"I'm happy when I think of what I have been through, but I'm more disappointed about the result.

"We deserved at least a point. We had a bad start – we need to start better.

"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb, but we will look to bounce back in the next game.”
