Steve: "We Have To Rescue The Slide"

31 December 2016

Steve Davis gives us his post-match reaction from Gresty Road following Accrington defeat.

"(In the boardroom) we always discuss everything, win or lose, top or bottom, it doesn't matter we discuss the game, we discuss players and we'll discuss how we move forward from this."

"They have had some home truths, we had two great chances in the second half. It looked like we were snatching at opportunities.

He added: "It's dead in the dressing room, they are disappointed and we have to try to pick them up.

"They will be in tomorrow, and they could quite easily produce a top performance (at Morecambe). We have to, we have to against a team in a similar position, those games are becoming more important."

"It is difficult with the inconsistency, as a manager with this group I'm not sure they can produce great performances every week, so we have to carry some (players) in games.

"We have all stuck together but in the end it comes down to winning football matches and we haven't won enough over the last few months.

"We have to keep trying, but in the end it has to be good enough. At the moment I'm here and working and fighting and trying to get them with me all the time.

"I thought last week we had done that with a great performance and we should have won, but today we have gone back to the reason we are where we are. We weren't able to repeat the performance of the last game.

"It's clear to us all because of the results we find ourselves drifting and we have to rescue that slide.

After the 1-0 defeat to Accrington, Steve told the club's official web-site: "We're in a scrap. Whether we like to hear that or not, that's the message.

Crewe never hit the same heights as Boxing Day and disappointingly ended the year with another home defeat. Crewe have now not won in the last five games and Steve Davis will certainly be hoping that the arrival of 2017 will be a fresh start.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis couldn't hide his disappointment after his inconsistent side slipped to 1-0 home defeat this afternoon. Billy Kee headed the only goal of the game just minutes before the half time interval and although we created two or three good chances in the 90 minutes, we just couldn't discover that moment of quality to draw level.
