'Kirk Deserves To Stay In The Team'

28 December 2016

Boss praise for Kirk's 'excellent' perfomance.

Crewe Alexandra youngster Charlie Kirk is set to retain his place for the visit of Accrington Stanley on New Year’s Eve due to impressive performance against Carlisle. Kirk had one of his finest games in Crewe’s first team and he nearly inspired the Railwaymen to what would have been a deserved three points against Keith Curle’s high-fliers.

Boss Steve Davis described Kirk as ‘excellent’ and says he got his chance after performing to a high standard in training.

Following the 1-1 draw with the Cumbrians, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Charlie was excellent. He provided a good link which we didn’t have in the other system.

“He has been really good in training, so he deserved his opportunity and he didn’t disappoint. He has never run so much as he did in this game, never. So I think he is getting it. He is understanding what you have to do to be a part of a team.

“He found the gaps and now he has to get in those positions to score goals. That is what he needs to do now.

“He has ability and time on his side. He deserves to stay in the team.”
