Steve Davis has praised the outstanding job Keith Curle has conducted as manager of Carlisle United. The Cumbrians arrive in South Cheshire on Boxing Day just two points behind table toppers Plymouth Argyle, having lost just one league game all season.

It will be a tough test for Davis’ Crewe side, who will be aiming to end a run of three consecutive defeats.

Ahead of our meeting at Gresty Road on Monday, Steve said: “Carlisle have had a great season and have been able to sustain their form, which is never easy. They have become really hard to beat and Keith deserves great credit.

“He has built on last season and has a good level of experience in his squad. They made some really good signings and their consistently means they are in the automatic spots and look like staying there.

“Keith has found a system that works for him and his players. They have generated results so it is little wonder they do not change their system or personnel too often and why should they? Fair play to them there.
