I Wanted Ryan Back For The Long-Term

15 December 2016

Boss says it was always his intention for Lowe to develop his coaching skills with us.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says that he re-signed Ryan Lowe in the summer as a long-term plan for the Liverpool-born striker. Davis revealed at the club’s fans forum last night that he was eager to bring back the 38-year-old as part of a long-term strategy to benefit the Football Club.

The Crewe boss recently rejected an approach for Lowe from his previous club Bury because he wants him to develop his coaching career with us in the future. Lowe has already worked alongside Alex Morris in the Development set-up this season and Davis says it was always intention to bring Lowe back for the long term.

Steve said: “First and foremost I wanted to bring Ryan back because he is a good footballer, who has a record of scoring goals. We needed more goal threat and that is why I was eager to bring him and Daggers (Chris Dagnall) into the club.

“They have great experience and have helped the younger players here to develop quicker. They lead by example.

“We wanted Ryan to play a key part on and off the pitch but I also wanted him for the long-term for the benefit of the club. Whether the next stage of his career will be in coaching or management I know he will only learn from being here. That was always my intention for him because I know what this club can offer him long-term.”
