Boss Determined To Keep Key Players

Steve Davis says he is determined to keep Guthrie and Garratt

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is determined to keep Ben Garratt and Jon Guthrie at the Football Club. The Alex boss has made offers to two key members of his starting XI but he admits that the players are keeping their options open as we approach the January transfer window.

Davis has certainly not given up retaining the services of his goalkeeper and centre-half beyond their current deals. Crewe would receive training compensation for Garratt if he elected not to sign a contract extension this summer due to his age.

Steve said: “We don’t want to be losing our better players and we want them to stay. They are a big part of the team and have improved because of the number of games they have played.

“Jon has probably improved more than anyone. He came from nowhere, from a village team really, and it has taken him three or four years to reach the level but now he is there, we doesn’t want to lose him now.

“He has worked hard, played over 100 games and we want him to stay. We want them both to stay because they are a part of our plans and we want them to keep on improving because I think there is more to come from both of them yet.

“We have made them the best offers we can and hopefully we can get them to commit to the next couple of years with us.”
