Steve: "We Are Improving Our Resilience"

23 August 2016

Steve says his Crewe team have shown that they can dig in when needed.

Steve Davis says that Saturday’s hard fought point at Newport County showed that his team is showing signs of great resilience.

Crewe took an early lead through another wonder goal from on-loan Chelsea winger Alex Kiwomya, but had to settle for a share of the spoils when Sean Rigg headed home with just 10 minutes left.

Crewe travel to Blackburn Rovers this afternoon for the second round of the EFL Cup and Davis is targeting another cup upset after we previously won 2-1 at Sheffield United in the first round.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We had to dig deep on Saturday to make sure we got something from the game. We had to show some real resilience in difficult conditions and we were disappointed we just couldn’t see it through.

“We had to stop trying to play our football as much and the players struck to their task to try and relive some of the pressure that was growing on us.

“I thought we were soaking it up, so we were disappointed to concede the goal we did.

He added: “We have showed with the results and performances so far that there are showing of us growing as a team. There is room for improvement because we have to hang onto leads better.”
