Steve: "We Are All Ready For Kick Off"

5 August 2016

Boss happy with how pre-season preparation has gone.

Ahead of the EFL league kicking off this weekend, Steve Davis says his Crewe players could not worked any harder over pre-season and are ready for our own opening game at Stevenage.

The Alex have never beaten Stevenage in six previous meetings and have not won away from home on the opening day since winning away at York back in 1994.

Steve says he has been reasonably pleased with how the pre-season has evolved although he was disappointed with some results.

“The pre-season has gone accordingly to plan and we have covered a lot of things. We have gone over a lot of things that happened last season to make sure we learn from that,’ says Steve.

“The players have worked hard. I don’t think I could have asked any more from them. We have been doing double sessions and put a lot of work into it. Some of the results in pre-season may not have gone the way we would have wanted, but the majority of the squad is fit and available and that is the most important thing.

“The players are fit. We have one or two niggles along the way and we have Liam (Smith) out injured and Ryan Wintle ill, so we are reasonably healthy going into the first game at Stevenage.

The boss added: “We all cannot wait for the first game now. We had a practice game on Wednesday and the players were flying around. It was very hectic, probably too much, but they were looking good and now we have to take that into tomorrow.”
