Steve: "Relishing Sheffield Trip"

9 August 2016

Alex boss Steve Davis says his team will relish tonight's challenge in the EFL Cup.

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra side will travel to Bramall Lane this evening with nothing to fear. The Railwaymen will start as underdogs against the Blades in the first round of the EFL Cup, but Davis believes that his side are more than capable of causing a cup upset after starting the season with a morale boosting victory at Stevenage at the weekend.

Crewe won 2-1 and the scoreline didn’t really reflect Crewe’s dominance in the opening game of the season and after recording that first away win on the opening day for 22 years, Davis says the dressing room is up for the challenge in Sheffield this evening.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Most of the players have played at Bramall Lane before and we will be going there with no fear. We know Sheffield United are a big club and are one of the favourites to win League One this season, but we will relish the challenge.

“Expectation is always high there and they will be expecting to get out of League One. It just goes to show how difficult the league is that they have struggled to get out of it.

“We have won our opening game of the season and that has given us a massive confidence boost. We will certainly be going there to compete and there is no reason why we cannot get a good result and progress in the competition.”
