Steve: "I'm Still Looking For That Player"

2 August 2016

Crewe boss says he is still looking for the midfield player who will make a difference to us.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web that he is still looking for that midfield player that will make a difference to us. The Alex boss has been pleased with his summer acquisitions with the experienced Ryan Lowe and Chris Dagnall adding to our striker options.

Davis signed full-back Zoumana Bakayogo to a new contract and signed midfielder Liam Smith on loan from Newcastle United, only to see the youngster collect an ankle injury against Bolton Wanderers XI in pre-season.

Ahead of the opening game of the season at Stevenage, Steve said: “The squad is relatively healthy at the moment. We have Ryan Wintle ill at the moment and that is why he was not involved last night.

“Liam has gone back to Newcastle for treatment but he will be back soon. I am still after a midfield player. That has been common knowledge through the summer and we are still looking for that player because we are short in there.

Steve added: "If we lose another one then we will be down to one, although we do have the option of moving Ollie (Turton) in there. That is what I did on Saturday and that is an option there.”
