Liam Smith Injury Latest

3 August 2016

Boss hoping to have loan midfielder back before the end of the month.

Steve Davis is hoping to have the on-loan Liam Smith back with us during August. The 20 year-old midfielder has returned to his parent club Newcastle United for treatment after suffering severe bone bruising of the ankle when he was injured late on against Bolton in pre-season.

A scan revealed that the midfielder had not suffered a fracture or ligament damage and Davis is hopeful of having him available for selection for the beginning of September.

Smith’s injury leaves the Alex boss short of midfield options, especially with youngster Ryan Wintle currently struggling with illness.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “Liam is still in Newcastle undergoing the first part of his rehab there, but once he can put load on it and start jogging again, I’m sure he will be come back to us.

“It is difficult to judge with bruising but he is a young lad and he should heal quickly. I would hope he is back within three to four weeks.”
