Guthrie Set To Make 100th Appearance

3 August 2016

Guthrie proud to make milestone after coming into the pro game late.

Jon Guthrie is set to make his 100th career appearance on the opening day of the season away at Stevenage and the utility defender, who has played at both left back and in his preferred central position in reaching that proud milestone says he is looking forward to an exciting season at the Alex.

Guthrie, 24, was named as his team-mates choice of player-of-the-season and the former Pewsey Vale defender is comfortably the club’s most improved player of the last 18 months.

Ahead of the season opener at Stevenage, Jon told us: “When I first signed for Crewe, reaching 100 games was never something I thought about.

“I just took it step by step, see how I went, and then obviously as I got playing more and more when I got to 20 I thought, ‘let’s get to 50’and then when I did that I thought that it would be amazing to get to 100.

“To play 100 games for one club is a big thing, quite a few lads at Crewe have done it recently and it’s a milestone in everyone’s career and it’s something I’m really looking forward to.

“To come from where I have to play 100 games is a big achievement and something I’m really proud and when it happens it will be a big occasion for me.”

Jon added: “It’s exciting times at Crewe. The last couple of seasons haven’t been good, we want to be competing at the other end of the table, and we’re all looking forward to it.”
