Steve says he is targetting a cup run to bolster his chances of adding to his squad.
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is hoping that the club can progress against Championship club Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup this evening and if so, can perhaps raise some more transfer funds to spend before the end of the transfer window.
The Alex boss has been able to add midfielder Danny Hollands to his squad ahead of last weekend’s trip to Newport County. The experienced Hollands has signed a short-term contract until January having left Portsmouth in the summer.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Ideally, I would like a couple more because I would like to fill a couple of positions but finances dictate that and there is a limit to what we can do.
“I think we are short of a couple of players to help in certain positions, so we sometimes have to play players in unfamiliar positions.
“If we can get through against Blackburn and the draw is kind to us then that could bring in some extra revenue. I would then ask the board if something would be possible but our focus is very much on getting through this evening.
He added: “We will look at it again to see if we can do anything else before the end of the month.”
