Boss: "We Have To Build On Promising Start"

8 August 2016

Steve Davis says players have to keep mkaing those small steps forward.

Steve Davis is hoping that Crewe Alexandra’s first win of the season at Stevenage will be a building block for a positive start to the season. Crewe won 2-1 on the opening day of the season thanks to goals from Ryan Lowe and Alex Kiwomya. Charlie Lee’s late consolation goal for Stevenage was the only downside on a perfect start to the campaign. It was Crewe’s first win away from home on an opening day for 22 years and immensely deserved.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “You could see what it meant to everyone when the goals went in. We were up and so were the fans behind that goal. After the run we have been on, it was a great relief to end that and start the new season with a win.

“It is nice to see all the hard work the players and staff put in pay off with a good result. We are not getting carried away. We know it is a long, hard season. It is a tough league and we are going to have set-backs along the way, but we need to use the result as a platform to have a good month.

“If we can collect some points in the first month then we could find ourselves in an encouraging position. It is only a step forward, a shuffle if you like, but we have to keep shuffling forward before we can make those big strides.

He added: “We just have to keep going, build some momentum and make sure we compete as well as we did at Stevenage.”
