Boss To Wait On Midfielder Bingham

12 August 2016

Billy rated as 50/50 for first home game of the season.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis will give his midfielder Billy Bingham as long as he possibly can to prove his fitness. On Tuesday evening, Bingham was unable to carry on after half-time after being caught unintentionally by Sheffield United defender Chris Basham and he had to be replaced by young Perry Ng. Oliver Turton moved into midfield to fill the void left by Bingham.

Davis is hoping to have Bingham available after his promising start to the new season and he will give him until tomorrow before naming his starting XI for our first home game of the season against Portsmouth.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We have a few struggling after Tuesday night. It was a tough game against a tough opponent and there was of course extra-time to content with as well.

“Billy is our major concern at the moment but we will give him as long as we can to see if some of the bruising goes down. I will give him 24 hours to see if it settles down.

“I would say he is 50/50 at the moment and it leaves us a bit short there. Ollie Turton could fill in there like he did on Tuesday night but Perry (Ng) is also struggling, so we would have to have a re-think about right-back.

The boss added: “It is frustrating but it is a game we are all looking forward to.”
