Boss On Stevenage Opener

3 August 2016

Steve Davis previews this weekend's opening game of the 2016/17 season.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis expects a tough opening game against Stevenage this weekend but believes that his team are more than capable of departing the Lamex Stadium with a positive result.

The Alex boss has been pleased with the work his players have got through during their pre-season preparation and he says they are ready for the new campaign in a competitive League Two.

Ahead of this weekend’s opener: “Bakes (Neil Baker) has been to see Stevenage in pre-season and we have had some reports on them. They are strong at the back. The back four is strong and they defend well.

“They also have a wealth of experience with players like McAnuff and Tonge, who have played in the Premier League. They have a lot of experience and it will be a tough game but it is a new start for us and we want to start with a good result and a good performance.

“Our group have a great spirit and there is no reason why we cannot go there and get a result. We are all looking forward to it. There is always a lot placed on the opening game of the season but we will be ready.”
