Boss: "Got To Get Back To Winning Ways"

3 August 2016

Alex boss says it is important to stop run of defeats as soon as possible to build confidence.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that his main aim is to create a winning mentality this season. The Alex are looking to put a disappointing campaign behind them after being relegated from League One and Steve says his first objective is to get us back to claiming points as quickly as possible.

Crewe start their League Two campaign with a tricky game away at Stevenage this Saturday, but the boss is hopeful of a good performance and positive result to kick start some lost confidence.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We are looking for a good start and I know that every manager will be saying the same thing. You grave a positive start because you know what it can do to the group in terms of momentum and confidence.

“You can do it the other way round. When we were promoted from this league back in 2012, the club did not start well and we only started picking up in November and December. We went on a great run in the second half of the season, but like I've said you prefer to start well and build from there.

“We are all after a much better season after what happened last season. To do it is crucial that we stop the run of poor results. We lost too many games last season and got used to it. We were a good group but we accepted defeat too easily and it was difficult to lift them after a narrow defeat.

“We were in the majority of our games and some we threw away with late goals or mistakes, so it is important we don’t do that and we turn some of those close games into our favour. The most important thing to do is stop the run of defeats and then our league position should look after itself.

He added: “We will then grow confidence from playing well and collecting points.”
