Club hoping knock to Bakayogo is nothing too serious.
Crewe Alexandra will check on the fitness of Zoumana Bakayogo during today’s cool down session after the former Leicester City man was forced off during the final few minutes of our 3-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the EFL Checkatrade Trophy. Full back Bakayogo received a knock late on from John O’Sullivan and needed a period of treatment before physio Nick Oakley instructed that a change was the best option. Jon Guthrie made a late entry into the game at left-back to cover the loss.
Although in some discomfort, Bakayogo was able to walk from the pitch and received further treatment for the injury following the final whistle.
After the 3-0 win, assistant manager James Collins remained hopeful that Bakayogo was subjected to just a knock and will be available for our home game against Doncaster Rovers this weekend.
James told crewealex.net: “It was a blow to see Zooms pick up that injury late on but we are hoping it is not as bad as it looked. He was able to walk off and at that stage of the game it made sense not to take a risk with him. It was logical to take him off.
“It is a concern but we will assess him this week and we hope that it is nothing serious and he will be available for the weekend. “
