Callum Ainley will miss out EFL Trophy clash at Bramall Lane due to groin injury.
Crewe Alexandra will be without youngster Callum Ainley for tomorrow night’s EFL Trophy clash at Sheffield United after he picked up a slight groin strain on the openin day of the season. Ainley came on as a second half substitute as Crewe won 2-1 at Stevenage.
The introduction of Ainley and fellow substitute Alex Kiwomya certainly helped swing the game in Crewe’s favour at the Lamex Stadium. Kiwomya helped create the opening goal with a splendid through ball to Ryan Lowe and then he scored a spectacular solo to seal a deserved three points for Steve Davis’ side.
Ahead of our EFL Trophy encounter at Bramall Lane, Steve told crewealex.net: “Callum suffered a slight groin strain on Saturday. He overstretched a bit and tweaked his groin, so he won’t figure at Sheffield.
“We won’t risk him and give him some time for the injury to settle down. It doesn’t look anything too serious and it will give me chance to utilise the squad.”
