We All Want Bakayogo To Stay

18 April 2016

Boss trying to entice popular Zooms to stay for League Two fight.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says he wants the popular Zoumana Bakayogo to remain with the club. The former Tranmere and Leicester City man was rewarded with a short-term contract in January after proving his fitness levels following almost two years out of the game with a double cruciate knee injury.

Bakayogo has been one of the plus points during our relegation season and Davis admits that he has spoken to the 29-year-old on a number of occasions about extending his stay with us.

Bakayago came off the bench on Saturday to create Marcus Haber’s goal in our 3-2 defeat to Scunthorpe United and he produced another three or four dangerous crosses that could and perhaps should have seen us gain at least a point.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I thought Zoumana was excellent. He put in a superb cross for Marcus’ goal and he produced four or five of those really quality deliveries that are difficult to defend against. He put them behind the defenders and made it difficult for the goalkeeper to come for them and our strikers needed to gamble a bit more.

“From playing further forward, he put over some superb, early crosses and we should have made more of them.

“He offered us some real energy, pace and legs and I thought he was excellent throughout.

“We want Zooms to stay and he knows our feelings about that. I’ve spoken to him on a number of occasions and we had made him an offer. We want him us because you can see the fight he has every time he plays and he is a super lad.

Steve added: “He is good with the younger players and we all want him to stay but I would think he is being advised to wait at the moment to see if anything else is out there.”
