Boss on disappointing lack of fight in Posh defeat
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis said that his team appeared to lack the fight and desire to win for the first time this season in the defeat at Peterborough.Posh won the match 3-0 thanks to a Harry Beautyman brace before half-time and a powerful Lee Angol strike.
Speaking after the match, Davis felt disheartened after the performance insisting that his side must prove their worth in the final weeks of the season.
He said: "We started ok, quite brightly, but then we made mistakes. It's different players in different games making the same mistakes.
"The one thing I want them to do is fight, and today for the first time this season there was a real lack of that. They got from their back four to our back four far too easily, no one made any attempt to stop them and just let them run past.
"The goal came from failed tackles and we're not winning those battles. I saw that for the first time today from quite a number of them. We prepared well for the game, got them together to come down yesterday to stay overnight and prepare for the game right because we felt before today there was still an outside chance we could get out of it.
"It was almost like a typical end of season game, the tempo was slow from both sides and both us managers wanted more. It was almost played out like a game that didn't mean anything, but from my point of view it did.
"I feel sorry for the fans, they've come a long way and it wasn't good enough. We'll work every day this week towards next week's game because today was not good enough by a long stretch."
