Steve: "Home Truths Had To Be Expressed"

8 April 2016

Alex boss says build up frustration led to healthy team debate.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he wants to get the frustration of last weekend’s poor performance at Peterborough out of the system with a victory at our near neighbours Port Vale.

The Alex were beaten 3-0 by the Posh last weekend and Davis says that some home truths were expressed in the Alex dressing room at the final whistle. The Crewe Alexandra boss believes that opinions needed to be aired as we aim to conclude a disappointing season with some positivity.

Steve told crewealex.net: “There were things said after the Peterborough game and I think some of that build up frustration came out. The players were left in no uncertain terms what I thought about that performance.

“We played some decent football at times but I was annoyed with the competitiveness and desire to get the ball back when they had it.

“What was said will remain behind closed doors like it should but the players know that a performance like that is unacceptable.

“I would think some of them would not have liked what was said but it had to be done because some of them accept defeat too easily. They have to become winners. I detest losing games and it hurts me. It hurts them but some of them have accepted the inevitable this season that regardless of how we prepare and play, we will eventually lose the game.

Steve added: “I have got to change them and will work hard to do that. We haven’t managed to do that enough this season and I am looking for a response against Port Vale this weekend.”
