Doncaster Plight Should Have Alarm Bells Ringing

26 April 2016

Steve Davis says Donny struggle proves how tough the league is if you get things wrong.

Doncaster Rovers’ struggles at the bottom of League One should have other expectant clubs ringing the alarm bells according to Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis. The Alex have already been relegated to League Two following a poor return on results and Davis says that Doncaster Rovers’ continued flirtation with relegation proves how difficult this level has become.

Crewe can have a big say on whether Doncaster Rovers remain in this division when they visit Gresty Road at the weekend. Doncaster Rovers need to win to keep their chances alive or they could be following the Railwaymen into League Two.

Ahead of our encounter at the Alexandra Stadium: “Doncaster being down there shows how tough this league is and has become. When you don’t get results, like we haven’t then you run the risk of being involved in a relegation scrap and Doncaster have not had the results they would have expected.

“Even bigger clubs can get caught out and their position should make sure that alarm bells are ringing at other club because I am sure they would have been thinking about promotion rather than relegation in the summer. It shows what can happen if you don’t get it right.

The boss added: “League One will only become stronger with the clubs coming down from the Championship and the ones coming up. The ones coming up have spent money trying to get up, so it will only improve and get better and better.”
