Davis: "We Have To Become Harder To Beat"

18 April 2016

Steve Davis says summer work will be focussed on defensive improvement.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says his first objective will be to make us harder to beat as we aim to bounce straight back from relegation. The Alex boss has been frustrated with the large number of goals we have conceded this season and he is determined to make us much more efficient in our defending.

Davis was again left ruing defensive mistakes after his Crewe Alexandra side slipped to a seventh consecutive defeat to Scunthorpe at the weekend. The Iron ran our 3-2 winners at the Alexandra Stadium.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We all like to see skill in football and we are renowned for producing footballers with creativity and skill.

“There is another side to the game and we have to become harder to beat. We will work hard in the summer to make us harder to beat and score against.

“We will work hard on pressurizing and getting closer to the opposition because we have given away too many goals this season. We have conceded some cheap goals at crucial times and Saturday was another example of that.

“The players worked hard in the game but we conceded those three goals and made things difficult for ourselves again.

The manager added: "The young players have come in and done well but they have to put the work in defensively as well. They have to learn and improve that part of their game."
