Alex boss says his players handled Saturday's atmosphere extremely well.
Steve Davis says his young group handled Saturday’s situation with ‘flying colours’. Crewe Alexandra slipped to a 3-2 defeat to an in-form Scunthorpe United side, who had to win at Gresty Road to keep their slight hopes of a play-off place alive.
Crewe were certainly the better side in the first period but went in at the break on level terms after Luke Williams burst from midfield to level things up two minutes before the interval.
Williams added his second goal from close range to make it 3-1 to the Iron - but Crewe kept going and pulled another one back through Marcus Haber.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I thought the players handled the situation well. We didn’t know what the atmosphere was going to be like and although it is difficult for them, I thought they came through with flying colours.
“We made some mistakes for their goals and we were disappointed with the way they were scored but I thought if you take that out of it, we played well, especially in the first half.
“They kept the ball really well and created chances. We couldn’t quite keep to that level in the second half but we still created chances in the game to have got something from it.
Steve added: “Full credit to the players, they kept going and got on with it on the day and it would be a great education for them.”
