Collins: "Important We Got Something"

19 April 2016

James Collins gives us his post-match reaction following 1-1 draw with the U's.

"We always thought he would be a late developer and we would have to wait for him physically. He is showing signs and he knows it is a big summer for him and a big season for him next year. He knows he has to get stronger because he knows he has to produce and that we cannot wait forever for him, but we know he can cause problems and run in behind."

"Callum has been ill for a lot of the season, so it has been a bit up and down for him but he has the ability to run in behind and threaten the defence. He has always done that through the Academy and to be fair he has scored headed goal as a kid. To see him score a goal like that for the first team is a real positive and we are all pleased for him.

"When you are 1-0 down with a few minutes left, to keep going and get that equaliser is a nice trait to have and that was a huge plus for us. The players kept going and had to dig in and they got a late reward.

Following the 1-1 draw with the U's, James told the club's official web-site: "It has been a tough and long season and I think you could tell that it was two teams that are down there. It was important that we got something from the game and it was nice for us to score a goal in the final minute for once. It was great to see Callum get that goal because we have lost a succession of games and it was good to stop that.

With Steve Davis suffering with a sore throat, James Collins, his first team coach conducted the pre-match interview this evening and he was pleased that the players got their reward for the spirit they showed to fight back from 1-0 down to end a run of seven successive defeats.
