Boss To Keep Giving Youngsters Experience

18 April 2016

Steve Davis says kids are benefitting from playing experience.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has revealed that he will continue to play his youngsters as he looks to shape his squad for next season. Steve named Callum Ainley, Charlie Kirk and George Cooper in the same starting line-up for the first time against Scunthorpe United on Saturday and he also bought on Callum Saunders and new signing Daniel Udoh in the second half.

Davis says that approach will not alter in the club’s remaining four games, starting with Colchester United tomorrow night.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The young players will be a big part of the team and squad next season, so I will continue to give them as much experience as I can.

“I know what they can all do because I see them in training every day. I am just looking for them to convert that into the games.

“Callum (Saunders) has been injured and been ill, so that is why he hasn’t been around. He has been unavailable but I just thought Saturday’s game was perfect for him to come off the bench and try and run in behind. He nearly got in once but couldn’t quite bring it down.

“He has played a couple of Under-21 games now and he got some game time at the weekend. I’m sure he will get more opportunities in the last few games, either starting or coming off the bench again. It is the same with Daniel. He has to be patient but he has also had a taste of it now.”
