Boss Says Mind-Set Has To Alter

25 April 2016

Steve Davis says his young group have to develop a winning mentality.

Steve Davis says that his young group will improve when he is able to bring in some more experienced players into the club in the summer. The Alex boss clearly feels that his squad needs one or two more leaders to help us through difficult periods.

Crewe Alexandra are already preparing for League Two with the boss planning his squad for next season. He is determined to add to some more positive influence to his dressing room.

Ahead of this weekend’s home encounter with Doncaster Rovers, Steve told us: “The modern footballer is a lot quieter now and they don’t really share how they are feeling. Most of it goes through their phones.

“When we do get them in a one-on-one conversation they are fine. They are positive about things and want to do well. They all have ability but it is just a question of them learning the game more. That is the challenge for us as staff and that is what we need to do.

“We are missing some of that winning mentality. When they come through the Academy, results do not matter as much as their development but it matters in the first team and that is something they have to learn very quickly.

“If we can get some more experienced players to help with that then will only improve us as a group. That is what we need and that is what I am determined to bring in. They have to learn parts of the game and develop a different mind-set based on winning games.”
