Up To Defenders To Grab Chance

Boss challenges Ray or Guthrie to fill Davis void.

Steve Davis says that it is up to George Ray or Jon Guthrie to now grab their opportunity after Harry Davis suffered a reoccurrence of his knee injury against Walsall this weekend. The club captain was forced off just before half-time at the Banks’s Stadium and had to be replaced by Ray in the 1-1 draw.

The Crewe Alexandra boss has now challenged the other centre-halves in the side to stake their claim to place alongside Ben Nugent in the heart of our defence, starting with Southend United tomorrow evening.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is now up to George or Jon to come in and do well. They have to grab their opportunities and be consistent.

“With H looking to be out for a while, it is up to them to step up and show they are the one to play alongside Ben.

“George came on Saturday and looked a little nervous but he hasn’t been in the team and was thrown into a difficult game. Hopefully, if he gets a run of games then that composure will come back into his play. “
