Ollie Turton pleased to the play right-back again after switching from midfield in the summer.
Oliver Turton says a summer chat with boss Steve Davis resulted in him switching back to right-back and him switching his number to a more appropriate 2! Turton wore number 7 last season as he started the season in central midfield.
Turton finished the season strongly in that position and his form in the second half of the season saw him finish third in the players vote for their choice of Player-of-the-Season.
Ollie told the club’s official web-site: “When I was younger I always played at right-back, and I was always comfortable there. To be honest I am enjoying my football, I’d play anywhere in the team – just to be on the pitch is great. The gaffer wants me to do a job at right-back and I’m more than happy to do that.
“I couldn’t really be a right-back with number seven could I, so I switched it over! I talked to the gaffer during the summer and he said he wants me to play right-back permanently so I thought I’d change my shirt number to match the position. I’m happy playing there and pleased to be in the team.
He added: “Playing in centre midfield has helped my football quite a lot. I’ve now just got to keep working on myself defensively so I’m dead sound and stopping more crosses, getting tighter to my man and just making sure I’m getting on top of all my duties.
“The defending comes first but the attacking is massive part of being a full-back now so I’ve got to get up the pitch and get some assists and maybe a goal or two.”
Ollie added: “Not much has gone for us lately even though we have been playing well. It’s just about getting some results on the board now. We’re getting to know each other a lot more now and that will be a big help.”
