The Spirit Of This Group Is Vital

21 September 2015

Crewe boss says it is important that his squad continue to keep feelings on a level field.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has praised the spirit and determination of his players after they were rewarded with all three points at Shrewsbury at the weekend. The Alex has been pleased with the spirit in the Crewe camp all summer and says that heads never dropped after we failed to record that first win in the opening seven games of the new season.

The Alex boss has always stressed the importance of sticking together as a united club and not letting outside influences affect the belief or morale of the squad.

Steve has always been an advocate of not getting too low when we lose or too high when we win and it is keeping that equilibrium that has helped us come through an indifferent start to the new season.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I know the job involved. I’ve been here before and the most important thing is to keep doing the things that you think are right for the football club. Everyone has their own opinions about how to do things and as a football manager I will have mine.

“Some of those opinions will not match mine but I always try and do what is best for Crewe Alexandra. Everyone’s opinion will differ so you cannot take everything to heart.

“What I need to do is remain positive and have that trust in my players. As a group they have remained optimistic and strong. There has been no blame culture here or finger pointing when things have not gone in our favour.

The boss added: “They have stuck at it and not been too down when the results have not gone for us. They certainly haven’t got carried away because we won at Shrewsbury. They know there is a lot of work to do. They have that faith and trust in each other and that is vital.”
