Steve Davis wants his players to show battling qualities against the Shrews.
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis wants to see more battling qualities from his side as they prepare for another derby encounter at Shrewsbury.
The Railwaymen are seeking that elusive first win of the season and there will be no better platform to achieve that than a victory at the Greenhous Meadow. Steve Davis believes that a positive performance and result could provide the catalyst to truly get our season up and running again.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have found this league tough going over the last couple of season but it is a good league and that is why we continue to fight to stay in it.
“We don’t want to be in the bottom four but that is where we find ourselves at the moment and it is important that we keep in touch with those above us. We know from experience that when you find yourself in the bottom places then it is difficult to get yourself out of it.
“With clubs at this level capable of picking up points when you don’t expect it, it can take time to move up the league if all the teams are collecting points around you as well.
“I want us to roll our sleeves up and show those battling qualities that we need to improve on. We have got to be harder to beat and score against.
“We have the experience of begin in this situation before and I believe that this group of players is better equipped than last season.
He added: “We have to keep that gap to a minimum and once we get that first win and our luck changes a bit then I think this group is capable of going on those mini-runs that we have done over the last couple of years.”
