Davis: "We Will Stick At It"

7 September 2015

Boss says his faith in his players won't waver as he backs them to come through tricky spell

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says he will stick with his team’s new playing style and personnel as we go in search of our first win of the new season.

The Alex have certainly played some entertaining football but have just fell short in the games when it comes to getting over the line to pick up some more deserved points. Many were left scratching their heads to how we lost 3-1 to Swindon Town at the weekend, despite dominating large spells of the game and creating some good opportunities.

The Crewe boss admits that it has been nice to catch the eye with our style of play but he has been left more frustrated than anyone that those displays have not produced positive results in tight matches.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We will keep faith in the players and what we are trying to do. What we need to be is better in both boxes. I was disappointed with aspects of our defending on Saturday and we didn’t do as well as I would have wanted in 1v1 situations. We were too open at times.

“The players are remaining positive because they know what we are trying to do and they were hugely disappointed that we didn’t get anything from the game. The crowd played their part for us and now we have to got to play ours by getting that first win for them.

“The stats make for good reading and it shows that we are doing the right things but stats don’t get you up the league, points do and that is what we need.”
