Steve Davis to assess goalkeeping situation after Dave Richards suffers foot injury.
Crewe Alexandra have been dealt a blow with the news that reserve goalkeeper Dave Richards has suffered a foot injury in training. The former Bristol City stopper has not from first feared broken a metatarsal but the Welshsman is likely to be out for a number of weeks.
Steve Davis will assess his goalkeeping situation next week and may look to add a back-up to his squad. The Alex boss will consider selecting young Kieron Harrison to travel to Walsall this weekend as cover for number one Ben Garratt.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Dave was injured in training. He went to clear the ball up the pitch and was caught by the studs of the other player as he tried to block it. It was right on the top of the foot and we feared he might have broken a bone.
“It was a nasty one but the good news is that it has not broken as metatarsal. He has visited the consultant and he will not need an operation but he is in currently in a boot and will time for the bruising to settle down.
He added: “He will be out for a few weeks at the very least so I will have to assess the goalkeeping situation again and maybe look to bring one in as cover. We do have the option of Kieron but it would be a big ask for him if was needed for any reason.”
