James Collins says the players cannot do much more to get that first win.
James Collins has admitted to the club’s official web-site that he has never felt as deflated as he did after witnessing Swindon’s two late goals on Saturday. The Alex had produced arguably their best performance of the season, but were undone late on by goals by Swindon’s deadline day signings Wes Thomas and Nicky Ajose. Swindon ran out 3-1 winners and everybody else was left scratching their heads as to how three probable points slipped away.
The club’s first-team coach told crewealex.net: “It was probably the most disappointed I have felt after a game since I’ve been first team coach. It was the most frustrated I’ve been during the 12 months I have been in the job because the performance was so good.
“I didn’t think we deserved that result because we played so well and had dominated large parts of the game.
“When you put in a good performance, nine times out ten you usually get a positive result and it was one of those days when it didn’t happen like that. It was the same at Wigan the week before. All we can do as coaches and as the manager is influence the way we are going to play.
“We can prepare the team and get them to play football but as a coach you cannot control how the opposition play on the day, or decisions that can go against you.
“We were pleased with the way the players approached the game. We played some great football and it was frustrating not to get a result.
“It is a results business and we are confident that if we can get that first win sooner rather than later that the results will begin to flow. We have a good bunch of players here and they have trained superbly well. They know they are playing well and that we have to improve on certain things in both boxes to make sure we get the results to go along with the performance.”
