James Collins says players working hard to improve
James Collins believes Crewe Alexandra are continuing to improve on last season’s performances and that getting that first win will only enhance the confidence within the dressing room.
Crewe travel to Shrewsbury this weekend still seeking that first win of the season and Collins is confident that another consistent display, similar to the one produced at Wigan’s DW Stadium will give us every chance of getting something from the game. Crewe were unfortunate to lose 1-0 at Wigan with George Ray clearly fouled for the winning goal and Bradden Inman hitting the foot of the post.
James Collins told the club’s official web-site: “I genuinely believe that we are improving as a team. I think the performances have improved on last season and we will stick with our principles and try and play football.
“I think we are passing the ball better and we are having more possession in games but we are also creating more chances as well. Last season we could struggle in games and only create three or four chances but now we are getting in double figures in most games.
“What we need to be is more consistent all the over the pitch. We have to take more of those chances and stop them at the other end.
“There are going to ups and downs with young players and when you are trying to implement a new style of playing but the players are determined to turn things around.
The first team coach added: “I think that when we do get that first win then that will only give them more confidence to go and express themselves more.”
