Steve won't risk youth stand-in Harrison with back-up Richards ruled out through injury.
Steve Davis says he has made enquires about the possibility of bringing in another goalkeeper on emergency loan. The club have lost back-up stopper Dave Richards with a foot injury and the Alex boss chose to go without any cover for number one Ben Garratt at Walsall on Saturday.
Steve did register his youth goalkeeper Kieron Harrison on Friday, handing him the number 26 shirt in his squad and although the teenager travelled to the Midlands to assist in the pre-match warm-up with Garratt and goalkeeping coach Fred Barber, he was not named on the substitutes’ bench.
Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he has spoken to a couple of clubs about the possibility of taking a goalkeeper on loan for a month to act as cover and competition for Garratt.
He said: “I would like to bring in another goalkeeper on emergency loan because we are going to be without Dave for a while. I don’t think it is right to risk Kieron at his age because it would be a lot to ask for him to come in and play in the team if anything was to happen to Ben.
“Although we registered him on Friday, Kieron is not ready. He needs to play well for the Under-18s and Under-21s first.
“I have made a couple of enquiries in regards to goalkeepers. I would like an older one who could come in and do a job if necessary.
“It would be good to get one on before the Southend game and hopefully we can agree something to allow that to happen.
He added: “We would bring one in for a month and then assess where we are with Dave after the four weeks.”
